Yesterday, we ordered a fleece sweater online from AAPN member Patagonia. We've had the pleasure of a tour of Patagonia in Ventura and, to this day, it was the most mind-blowing insight I've ever had with a brand.
With the specific garment ordered, we were delighted to see it was made by AAPN member Hirdaramani Group in Sri Lanka. We met this impressive family during our first of three trips to Sri Lanka, starting in 2010. Their compliance is over the top and their kindness and vision drive their growth.
Here is Patagonia's description of them:
Hirdaramani CKT Agalawatta
Sewing Factory
A Patagonia supplier since: 2011
Hirdaramani CKT Agalawatta is a Fair Trade Certified™ sewing factory in Sri Lanka that makes many of our knit sportswear styles. Through Fair Trade, their worker committee voted to spend the first premium funds from Patagonia on establishing a child care center nearby.
In addition to implementing social programs for their employees, they empower more than 50 local farmers by teaching organic farming practices, then purchase the produce for the factory café. Their LEED Gold certified factory consumes 48% less energy than a conventional factory, and in 2012, they were certified as Asia’s first Carbon Neutral Apparel Factory.
