The Atlanta Journal Constitution published a great article the other day, on automated sewing, and it features AAPN member Buhler Yarns.
At their plant in Jefferson, near Athens, 155 workers keep a machine-packed, four-acre yarn spinning plant running around the clock. Debris-flecked cotton comes in one end. Out the other goes cream-colored specialized yarns, shipped to the U.S. and Central America to be turned into high-end cloth. Employees who tend the machines that blend, comb and spin cotton are widely spread on the polished, concrete factory floor. It's amazing stuff, but it takes skill, lots of it.
Take a few minutes to give this great piece a read. It's well worth your time.
